Tax enforcement programs in New York have helped the State Department of Taxation and Finance collect a total of $3.9 billion in evaded taxes in 2013, up 5 percent from the previous year. Governor Andrew Cuomo says his administration has worked hard to crack down on tax evasion, and the increased enforcement measures are working to help protect New York taxpayers from having to shoulder the missing tax burden. Of the evaded tax money collected, about 80 percent will fund state programs, while the remaining 20 percent goes to local governments.
