The Cattaraugus County Sheriff's Office is warning people not to be fooled by a caller posing as a member of the sheriff's office. Deputies say a citizen was scammed into giving his credit card information over the phone to settle an unpaid debt. According to the victim, the caller stated that money was owed regarding a past bill for some tools purchased. The caller then told the victim that failure to comply could result in an arrest. Citizens are being advised not to give out any personal bank account or credit card information to any companies over the phone, unless you know they are legitimate.
