One of the men charged in last month's murder of a Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra violinist is found to have an extensive criminal record, and that includes a prison sentence he served in connection with another murder two decades ago. According to a report in the Buffalo News, 43-year-old Jonathan Conklin admitted to helping orchestrate an attack against his roommate in a rooming house in New Hampshire in 1991. The victim was beaten unconscious with a baseball bat and later died from his injuries. Conklin, who was 20 years old at the time of that attack, served nine years in a New Hampshire state prison for his role in the death of Walter Michael. Since getting released on parole in 2000, Conklin has found himself in jail in Chautauqua County six times on a variety of charges. Conklin, along with 30-year-old Charles Sanford, are facing life in prison and even the death penalty in the murder of 61-year-old Mary Whitaker at her Town of Westfield home on August 20th.
