American Legion's National Commander visits Chautauqua County

The national commander of The American Legion visited Chautauqua County on Thursday. Michael Helm from Nebraska, visited the American Legion Post 59 in Fredonia where he met with reporters including WDOE News. Helm discussed a number of issues including the current state of the Veterans Administration. He says they are keeping the pressure on the VA to discipline officials involved in the scandal that denied thousands of veterans health care services.

Helm says there's been improvement to the health care system for veterans and reclaim their trust. During his stops while in Chautauqua County, Helm visited the VA clinic in Dunkirk and was impressed with what he found.

One of Michael Helm's goals as national commander is push for better health care services for females who account for nearly 30 percent of all veterans in the U.S. Helm's visit also included a dinner that was held at the American Legion Post 1280 in Cassadaga.
