Local assemblyman Andrew Goodell says if Chautauqua County lawmakers want a half-a-percent increase in the local sales tax, he'll support it. However, the Bemus Point Republican says it's unclear how the state legislature will act as a whole on the request. Goodell says while he's uncertain about where the legislature stands on such an increase, there is a move afoot to set the state's base tax at 8% as opposed to the current 7%. He says that's because Chautauqua is one of just a handful of counties whose tax is below 8%.
