Dragon Boat race to be held in August on Chautauqua Lake

One of the world's fastest growing water sports is coming to Chautauqua County late this Summer. The county will be hosting a first-ever "Dragon Boat" race on Chautauqua Lake on August 29th. County Executive Vince Horrigan joined with members of the Chautauqua Lake Dragon Boat Committee this week to announce the event, which will include about 24 teams. "Dragon Boats" have been here before. Retired State Supreme Court Judge Joseph Gerace is part of the committee and says there are about 20 rowers in the boat, while one person steers and another beats a drum to provide a cadance for the rowers...
Gerace-First-ever race on Chautauqua Lake
Gerace says they were spurred on by the story of Ashville's Louise Wolanski, who was featured in a local newspaper article two years ago about her involvement in the sport. The race will benefit the new Chautauqua Lake and Watershed Alliance.
