Governor Andrew Cuomo on Sunday signed new legislation designed to strengthen New York State's support of people with disabilities. One of the laws states that is discriminatory for a public or private operator of places such as hotels, restaurants, retail stores, hospitals, and recreation and entertainment venues to refuse to remove certain architectural or communication barriers in such locations. The second law directs the State Office for People with Developmental Disabilities to look at state laws and regulations pertaining to military family members and suggest any necessary improvements to make those laws and regulations better serve the families of people with developmental disabilities. The new laws were signed by Governor Cuomo to help mark the 25th anniversary of the historic Americans with Disabilities Act.
