A local researcher who has been studying the effects of microbeads on the Great Lakes and other waterways says a ban is the best way to get a handle on the pollution problem. Dr. Sherri Mason, a chemistry professor at the State University of New York at Fredonia, spoke about the issue on WDOE's Viewpoint program today. While many companies that the use the small plastic particles in their personal care products have pledged to phase them out, Dr. Mason says a ban would have a greater impact.
Mason-Ban is needed
Dr. Mason says it's important for counties to take action because state legislation backed by State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman has only made it through one chamber...the Assembly. Dr. Mason recently gave a presentation to the Chautauqua County Legislature's Economic and Planning committee.
