Primary contest candidates discuss the future of NRG plant in Dunkirk

Concerns about the future of the NRG plant in Dunkirk were among the top issues candidates running in next week's Democratic primary for mayor of Dunkirk discussed during an appearance on WDOE's Viewpoint program Wednesday.  NRG announced last week that the project, involving the conversion of the plant from coal to natural gas, was being delayed because of a pending lawsuit. Mayor AJ Dolce says he remains committed to the project.

Councilman Willie Rosas, who is also running for mayor,  says he has also reached out.

Both candidates admit that if the repowering project does not go through, there would have to be major adjustments made to city government...although neither candidate gave any specifics.  Primary Day elections will be held on Thursday, September 10th.
