National Grid crews had a busy day on Wednesday, not only dealing with scattered power outages caused by the strong winds, but a problem at the Berry Road sub-station in the town of Pomfret. Utility spokesman Steve Brady says that's what triggered a large power outage that affected several locations in the North County, leaving nearly 6,300 National Grid customers in the dark for over two hours.

Brady says crews were also dealing with a number of scattered outages earlier in the day that were directly caused by the winds.
