A Western New York Congressman has announced that he will oppose Key Bank's purchase of First Niagara Bank. Congressman Brian Higgins joined Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz this morning to announce their opposition to the proposed merger. Higgins says the merger may violate federal anti-trust law according to a careful analysis his office has done. He says over 300 jobs are on the line and the community should be concerned. Under the proposed deal, Key Bank will pay $4.1 billion to buy First Niagara. A final decision will be made by the U.S. Department of Justice and the Federal Reserve.
