An effort is underway to assist a Portland area family left homeless by a blaze that destroyed their home late Thursday afternoon. A special account has been opened to assist the Sissem family, who lost everything in blaze on Ellicott Road. The family includes Elizabeth, a full-time college student, her mother and a three-year-old niece that lived in the rear apartment. Elizabeth's aunt and uncle lived in the front apartment. If you would like to assist the Sissem family, an account has been opened at Cattaraugus County Bank on Main Street extension in Dunkirk. Funds collected will help the family get back on their feet.
