Strong thunderstorms moved across portions of Chautauqua and Cattaraugus counties during the early morning hours. The storms brought strong winds and torrential rains, but the amount of rainfall has been spotty. According to the National Weather Service, about a half inch of rain fell at the Dunkirk Airport, while only a few hundreds of an inch fell at the Chautauqua County Airport near Jamestown. A report from a weather observation site in the town of Pomfret showed about a quarter-of-an-inch. Showers and thunderstorms remain in today's forecast and could pack a punch. The National Weather Service's Storm Prediction Center has the area under a slight risk for severe weather.
