Six more members of the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office have recently been certified as New York State Basic-EMTs including the law enforcement agency's top official. Sheriff Joe Gerace, three deputies, a deputy sheriff sergeant and a corrections sergeant completed training and recently received their certification. The Sheriff's Office now has 13 law enforcement EMTs who can respond to EMS calls throughout the county. Their primary function will be to assist local fire departments and EMS units as first responders. Sheriff Gerace and County Emergency Services Director Julius Leone announced the program in March.
