Marauders Dominate East Aurora on Homecoming Night

Dunkirk began this high school football season with a pair of tough losses.  However, after Friday night's performance at Karl Hoeppner Field, that 0-2 start appears to be a distant memory.  In a game broadcast on WDOE, the Marauders thoroughly dominated East Aurora in a 39-6 victory on homecoming night for Dunkirk and put the Marauders in a tie for second place with Springville in Class B South.  The story of the game for Dunkirk (3-2, 2-1) was its ability to gain huge chunks of yards on the ground.  The Marauders gained a total of 426 yards, throwing the ball only once for the entire game.  Fullback Elwin Gomez opened the scoring with a 2-yard touchdown run on the game's opening drive.  On Dunkirk's next drive, Juan Damas ran 61 yards on a reverse for a touchdown and a 13-0 lead.  Quarterback Evon Hernandez was next to find paydirt, as he ran down the middle for a 59-yard touchdown early in the 2nd quarter.  Later in the quarter, after an East Aurora fumble, Isiah Velez ran the ball in from 4 yards to make it a 25-0 Dunkirk lead.  East Aurora answered with a 67-yard drive, capped by an 11-yard touchdown pass from Matt Boss to Jacey Jakubczak on the Blue Devils' only scoring drive of the evening.  Dunkirk put the game on ice in the 3rd quarter, as Damas scored from 10 yards and Velez ran it in from 43 yards (pictured).  On defense, Dunkirk held East Aurora (2-3, 1-2) to just 113 total yards and forced three turnovers.

Evon Hernandez was Dunkirk's leading rusher, carrying the ball 11 times for 95 yards and a touchdown.  Four other Marauders had over 60 yards rushing apiece; Isiah Velez had 8 rushes for 82 yards and two touchdowns, Alton Ingram had 8 carries for 80 yards, Juan Damas ran 5 times for 71 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and Tywon Wright ran the ball 4 times for 66 yards, coming up just short of a touchdown at the end of the game.  For East Aurora, Jacey Jakubczak had 45 rushing yards and a touchdown and also had one catch for 10 yards.  Owen Smith gained 43 yards on 11 carries.
