A minor earthquake in the Atlantic Ocean was felt throughout parts of New York State on Friday, including Western New York. The U.S. Geological Survey reported a 2.7 magnitude quake with its epicenter 270 kilometers south-southeast of Southampton, New York at 1:24 PM. The USGS received reports of the quake being felt as far west as Buffalo. The tremor was also felt in Elmira.
