Recognizing the heroic actions of Jamestown Police Department K-9 Mitchell, who was seriously injured apprehending a murder suspect in late November, State Senator Cathy Young has introduced "Mitchell's Law," making it a felony to injure a K-9 officer in the line of duty. The crime is currently a misdemeanor. Young says Mitchell's injuries were very serious and a stiffer penalty is warranted. The suspect, 36-year-old Keith Robbins, allegedly stabbed K-9 Mitchell in the throat and under his jaw, resulting in emergency surgery for his injuries.
