State DOT to Add Rumble Stripping on Route 60 from Gerry to Cassadaga

In the wake of last month's fatal crash involving a car and tour bus on Route 60 in the Town of Charlotte, the New York State Department of Transportation will put rumble stripping in the median of the road this year. That from local assemblyman Andrew Goodell, who has been in touch with the DOT on the situation. A Lakewood man, 19-year-old Justin Romaniuk, was killed when his car crossed the center line back on January 23rd and crashed nearly head-on with a tour bus near Sinclairville. Goodell says he's pleased to hear that DOT safety engineers came up with the concept, and will move quickly on getting the rumble stripping in place. The feature is already in place between Cassadaga and Fredonia. Goodell adds he will also push for other safety improvements in the final 2017-18 budget...

The investigation into the crash involving Romaniuk's car and the bus is continuing. Chautauqua County Sheriff Joe Gerace says he thinks adding the rumble stripping is effective and helps improve safety. In fact, he says such a safety feature should be included on other similar roads.
