Area Congressman Tom Reed today announced that two area harbors will be picking up some significant funding to help with dredging projects. The Corning Republican says that Barcelona Harbor will receive an additional $675,000 in funding and Dunkirk Harbor will get an additional $1,190,000 in funding. In announcing the grants, Reed says the harbor projects are authorized by U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and each dredging project will assist in correcting safety issues and prevent negative economic impacts locally and regionally.
In another development, Congressman Reed indicated that the State University of New York at Fredonia will be getting a $368,000 from the U.S. Education Department to benefit the Upward Bound program. The program based at Fredonia aids high school students from low-income backgrounds and students from families in which neither parent holds a bachelor's degree.
