Traffic was backed up on a portion of Interstate 86 in Cattaraugus County late Tuesday afternoon after a black bear was found in the roadway. According to the Cattaraugus County Sheriff's Office, the black bear was struck by an SUV near Exit 17 at about 5:45 PM and was later seen sitting in the westbound lanes. A deputy later arrived on scene and shot the bear dead. The driver of the SUV was not injured.
