Donald A. Dragon, Sr.

Donald A. Dragon, Sr., 84, passed away on May 8, 2013 at Tidewell Hospice House in Venice, FL, following a short illness.

He is survived by his spouse, Ethel Houchens, of 45 years, whom he married on April 26, 1968; his children, Donald A. Jr. (Bonnie) of Lakeland, FL, Kevin J. (Vivian) of Englewood, FL, Rebecca J. Maciorowski of Hudson, FL. and Daniel L. (Lynne), also of Englewood, FL; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was born to Joseph and Antonina Dragon on July 10, 1928 in Fredonia, NY. He was preceded in death by his parents, an unnamed infant child and 12 brothers and sisters.

Don proudly served in the US Army from May 1953 to January 1957, receiving an Honorable Discharge. He was employed by the Observer in Dunkirk, NY, from which he retired in 1991, moving to Florida that same year.

Don enjoyed carpentry work, gardening, playing several different card games with friends and families and was an avid bowler. He was especially proud of his children and grandchildren.

Arrangements will be made by the James A. McKee Funeral Home in North Port, FL. Interment will be at the National Cemetery in Sarasota, FL, where graveside services will be held.
