David J. Blackman, age 74, of Ripley, NY died on Thursday July 17, 2014 at Westfield Hospital. He was born on April 12, 1940 to the late Lloyd Oscar and Lilly Gregory Blackman.
He was a Vietnam Era veteran serving in the United States Air Force, retiring after 28 years of service and then was employed at the United States Post Office in North East, PA for 15 years until his retirement in 2006. David was a member of the N.R.A., Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 2568 in North East, Life Member of the American Legion in Ripley, NY, and was a Boy Scout leader in New Mexico, Thailand, Korea, and Illinois.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jacqueline Williams Blackman, whom he married May 30, 1964; daughter: Anna-Lyn Cettell (Rodney) of Ripley; sons, David W. Blackman (Donna) of Ripley and Mark D. Blackman (Julie) of Erie; brother, Jeffrey L. Blackman (Ruth) of Ripley; 7 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the William D. Elkin Funeral Home, 65 S. Lake St., North East on Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 and are invited to attend a funeral service on Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home with Full Military Honors. Officiating is Rev. Philip Johnson. Private interment. Memorials may be made to the Ripley Hose Co. #1, South State Street, Ripley, NY 14775.
