Sonya J. Lewandowski, age 73, of Dunkirk, N.Y., died Saturday July 26, 2014 at her home with her family at her side.
Sonya was born on February 1, 1941 in Niagara Falls, N.Y., to the late Ray Maternowski and Louise Martin. On June 10, 1972, she married James E. Lewandowski.
Sonya was a homemaker, and a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Affectionately known as "Nana," she especially enjoyed taking care of and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Besides her husband James E. Lewandowski, of Dunkirk, N.Y., Sonya is survived by 2 daughters: Deborah L. Lewandowski of Fredonia, N.Y. and Beverly A. Fitzgerald of Fredonia, N.Y.; grandchildren: Ashley S. Kalfas of Dunkirk, N.Y., Joshua J. Ellman of Fredonia, N.Y., Christina L. Fitzgerald, of PA., and Mellissa J. Fitzgerald of PA.; great-grandchildren: Jayden J. Neallard and Dylan J. Neallard, both of Dunkirk, N.Y. and Noah J. Fitzgerald of PA.; a brother: Terry (Michelle) Martin of MA.; a sister: Raeann (Kent) Benson of NV., and a cousin: Norm Cordt of NV.
Friends may call Friday from 7-9 p.m. at the Larson-Timko Funeral Home, 20 Central Ave., Fredonia, N.Y. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 328 Washington Ave. Dunkirk, N.Y. on Saturday at 10 a.m. (Please assemble at Church.) A private interment will be in the Portland-Evergreen Cemetery. A funeral reception will follow at the Dunkirk Moose Club. Arrangements by David J. Dengler, Larson-Timko Funeral Home.
