Richard A. Kalfas, Sr.

Richard A. "Dick" Kalfas Sr., 84, of Dunkirk died Sunday morning (July 27, 2014) at Brooks Memorial Hospital in Dunkirk.

He was born July 9, 1930 in Dunkirk, the son of the late Stephen Sr. and Estelle (Wojnarowski) Kalfas.

Mr. Kalfas retired from the Dunkirk Police Department as a desk sergeant after 21 years of service. He and his mother Estelle were partners in the operation of the R. Kalfas Realty in Dunkirk.

A lifelong Dunkirk resident, Mr. Kalfas was a member of various clubs through the years, including the Dunkirk Police Benevolent Association.

He had been an Eagle Scout in his youth and loved to hunt and fish. An accomplished musician, he was an accordionist with the Tubby Wallace and Wallace-Farina bands.

Survivors include his wife, Noreen (Henry) Kalfas, whom he married Nov. 25, 1948; three daughters, Ricarda Sue (Richard III) Haase of Cassadaga, Richelle Ann Wickmark of Falconer and Estelle (Rodney) Harper of Dunkirk; one son, Richard A. Jr. (Lynne) Kalfas of Dunkirk; one brother, Frederick "Butch" (Pat) Kalfas of Dunkirk; 13 grandchildren, Stephanie (Thomas) Haase-Good, Lynne (Matthew) Moeller, Julie (Korydon) Haase-Smith, Timothy (Janice) Wickmark, Thomas (Laura) Wickmark, Kayla (Christopher) Wickmark-Hallett, Jennifer (Darnell) Kalfas-Lockett, Sarah Kalfas, Katie Kalfas, Kendall Kalfas, Christopher Ramos, Alyssa Ramos and Cameron Harper; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Stephen Kalfas Jr.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass which will be celebrated Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church. There will be no calling hours. Entombment will be in Holy Spirit Columbarium of St. Mary's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Allegheny Highlands Council, (Boy Scouts of America) P.O. Box 261, Falconer, NY 14733.
