Dolores L. Barnes, age 89, of Sheridan, New York, died Thursday, August 14, 2014.
She was born August 23, 1924 to the late Clyde and Gertrude Luce.
Dolores had a fierce love for her family and her work. She and her husband, John W. "Pat" Barnes, owned and operated Barnes Greenhouses in Sheridan for more than 50 years. Dolores was still working in her own greenhouses in her 89th year. They spent many happy sunsets at their special getaway in Venice, Florida.
Dolores is survived by her son, Brian W. Barnes; daughter, Sharon B. Welles; granddaughter, Dawn C. Tunstall (Mark Zafuto): grandson, J. Jarratt Tunstall (Chere); three great-granddaughters, Delanie, Alexis, and Rylyn Tunstall; step-grandson, Zachary Zafuto; her brother, Thomas Luce (Ruth) and her nieces and nephews.
Dolores was preceded in death by "Pat", her loving husband, in 2002; and a brother, Wayne Luce.
Memorial contributions in Dolores' memory may be made to the Sheridan Fire Department or the Northern Chautauqua Canine Rescue. A Celebration of Dolores' Life will be held on Saturday, Sept. 6, 2014 from 3 to 6 p.m. at the home of Brian Barnes, 10789 Newell Road, Dunkirk, NY 14048.
