Cindy L. Costley

Cindy L. (Bowen) Costley, age 53, of Pearl St., Westfield, died unexpectedly, Sunday, August 24, 2014 at home.

Cindy was born on October 1, 1960 in Westfield, NY, a daughter of Leona (Waite) Bowen of Westfield and the late John J. Bowen.

Cindy was a graduate of Westfield Academy and Central Schools and received her associate degree in computer studies. Most recently she had been employed by the Westfield VFW as a bartender.

At various times of her life, Cindy was a loving daughter, nurturing mother, devoted wife, doting grandmother, and always, a caring friend. She was the voice of reason and the dispenser of justice. She was the shoulder to cry on and forever the patient listener. Above all, Cindy was the center of the family, the rock upon which everyone could depend. She loved not only her family but also her community and country.

She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, and Women of the Moose. She was a patriot to the end and held the ideals and values of America dear to her heart.

You could find Cindy taking care of her grandchildren, working in her flowerbeds, relaxing with friends, or listening to music. She will be remembered for her endless caring, unwavering loyalty, and country charm.

Besides her mother, Leona of Westfield, Cindy is survived by her husband of 13 years, Ray Costley, whom she married on Oct. 6, 2001 and by her three daughters: Julie (Rob McIntosh) Eimers of Ripley, NY, Leana (Bo Glasser) Melnick of North East, PA, and Michelle (Joe) Phelps of Sherman, NY. Cindy was the proud grandmother of Madison, Alaina, JaLeigh, Carlie, Trenten, Hannah Lee, and Summer.

She is further survived by her nine sisters: Susan, Delilah, Jacalyn, Jane, Teresa, Linda, Angel, Maria and Nicole, and by her five brothers: John, Timothy, Patrick, Paul, and Alan.

Friends may call on Thursday, August 28 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Mason Funeral Home, 37 Clinton Street, Westfield, NY and are invited to attend her Funeral Service to be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 29, 2014 at The First United Methodist Church of Westfield, 101 E. Main St., Westfield, NY with her brother, Rev. John R. Bowen officiating and Rev. Matt Golibersuch presiding. Private family burial will be in Westfield Cemetery.

Cindy's family strongly suggests, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675.
