Donald W. Frost, 83, of Port Charlotte, FL, formerly of Collins and Gowanda, NY, passed away Sunday September 7, 2014 at Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte, FL after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born October 18, 1930 in Perrysburg, NY the son of the late Archie and Helen (Schutt) Frost. He was predeceased by his wife, R. Elaine (Brown) Frost, on April 15, 1994.
Mr. Frost was a veteran having served stateside with the US Air Force from 1951 to 1955. He achieved the rank of sergeant and was proud of his military service. He worked for the US Postal Service for many years in North Collins and Hamburg. Previously, he was a Prudential insurance agent in Gowanda. While a resident in the Gowanda area, he was an active member of the Gowanda American Legion Post #409, Gowanda Masonic Lodge, Gowanda First Presbyterian Church, Slovenian Club of Gowanda and Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1382. Don was an avid golfer, sports enthusiast and longtime Buffalo Bills fans.
Mr. Frost is survived by 2 daughters, Debora (Ricki) Story of Collins, NY and Diane (Gerald) McCue of Fairport, NY; 2 grandchildren, Brian (Chandra) Story and Melinda (Rob) Story; and a great granddaughter, Rose McGill. He is also survived by a brother, Jack (Theresa) Frost, of Perrysburg, NY and two nephews.
Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice. A private graveside service will be held for the family with a memorial service to be held in October. Arrangements are under the direction of Mentley Funeral Home Inc., 105 East Main Street in Gowanda, NY.
