Ivan J. Pecnik, 81, went to be with our Lord on September 16, 2014.
Born to Joseph and Julia Pecnik in Gowanda on February 5, 1933, Ivan was predeceased by his parents and infant sister Josephine.
He was the dear husband of 60 years to Janet (nee Goran); Dad to Patricia (Ray) Start, Julia (Nelson) Grimm, Richard (fiancee Linda Glenn) Pecnik, and Lara (James) Wilkins; adored Grandpa to Matthew (Sarah) Grimm, Andrew (Lyndsay) Grimm, Christopher (Lauren) Grimm, Tyler Wilkins and Alayna Pecnik. Great-Grandpa to Hannah and Clara Grimm.
Ivan, a 1950 Gowanda Central School graduate, became a Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute trained professional civil engineer. He retired from the New York State Department of Transportation after 34 years as a design and materials engineer, and project supervisor. He then worked for the National Academy of Sciences as their North Atlantic Regional Engineer in the Strategic Highway Research Project (SHARP) and Long Term Pavement Performance (LTPP) programs before retiring entirely in 1998. He served as the Town Engineer for the Town of Collins for many years. He will be remembered by all who knew him for his faith in God, integrity, and sense of humor.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, September 28, 2014 at 2:30 p.m. at the Gowanda Free Methodist Church. Arrangements by Hills Funeral Chapel in Gowanda.
