Larry E. Ostrander, 69, of Mayville, was called home Saturday (September 27, 2014). He was born May 5, 1945 in Westfield, the son of the late Ross Ostrander and Evelyn Kelsey-Smith Ostrander.
Larry served in the Air Force as a mechanic working on B-52s coming in from Nam, he was stationed in Bangor, Maine. He was a proud member of the Mayville American Legion Post 493, where he served as post commander and vice commander many times over the years.
He worked for the VanAtters at Chautauqua Malted Milk in Mayville, Holcomb Oil, and for the last 30 years for Klinginsmith Plumbing and Heating till he retired in 2009. A hard worker he enjoyed working with his hands, he built his house and many pieces of furniture for his wife and family. All who received one of his beautiful cutting boards as a gift, treasure them. All who knew him could count on him to drop what he was doing and help them with a plumbing problem or any other type of problem they had.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Some of his best times were in the woods in the fall putting on a push with the boys. Larry O will be missed by Jude and the boys, friends, and family, and all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his mother, Evelyn Ostrander; his wife, Jude (Kesby) Ostrander; three sons, David (Debbie) Ostrander of Falconer, Jeff (Shannon) Ostrander of Avon Park, FL, and Shawn (Cynthia) McKane of Jamestown; three grandchildren, Justin (KayLa) Ostrander of Jamestown, Savanah (John) Edwards of Avon Park, FL, and Miranda Jo McKane of Jamestown; two step grandchildren, Jason (Kristi) Huddleson of Charleston, SC, and Danielle Huddleson of Jamestown. He was preceded in death by his father, Ross Ostrander.
A Memorial service will be announced at a future date. Memorials may be made to Chautauqua County Hospice, Mayville American Legion Post 493, or to the First Baptist Church in Mayville.
