Ellery G. Nickles, 74, of Jamestown, died Friday September 26, 2014 in Westfield at the home of his daughter. He was born June 18, 1940 in Pittsburgh, PA, the son of the late Charles and Martha (O'Hare) Nickles.
Prior to his retirement in 2004, Ellery worked at Blackstone/Valeo for over 40 years.
He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, primarily serving at Fort Hood in Kileen, TX.
Ellery was an avid reader, an avid walker, he enjoyed westerns and Clint Eastwood movies. In addition, he was a big fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Surviving are three children, James D. (Millie) Willis of Belmont, NC; Timothy C. (Alison) Nickles of Rocky Hill, CT; Kathleen A. (Ken) Nickles Torrey of Westfield; four grandchildren, Ryan P. Eagan, Morgan P. Torrey, Jordan K. Nickles, Johnny Roberts; and a great granddaughter, Abigail Branch. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Karen Fritz Nickles whom he married August 27, 1965 and who died September 26, 2013.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Military Honors will be conducted by members of the VVA 865 Jamestown.
The family will receive friends to celebrate Ellery's life from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Lind Funeral Home in Jamestown.
