Helma Catalano, 91, a longtime area resident of Silver Creek, NY passed away Monday afternoon (Oct. 20, 2014) at the Fredonia Place Memory Care in Fredonia, NY.
She was born on March 8, 1923 in Laona, NY, the daughter of the late Vincenzo and Angeline (Salinarde) Manno. Helma married Charles Catalano on May 8, 1947 at Holy Trinity Church in Dunkirk, NY.
She was a longtime dance instructor, passing her love of dance to many throughout the community. She taught and gave numerous dance performances (sometimes with her husband) throughout Western New York. Helma designed and made all her dance costumes.
She was a devout parishioner of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel R. C. Church in Silver Creek.
Survivors include her sisters, Jean Fogerty, Susan McCormick and Paul Palmissano; her caregivers, Marilyn Miller and Elaine Gugino; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her beloved husband of 60 years, Charles Catalano, she was preceded in death by 10 brothers and sisters.
Friends may call at the Hole-Parker Funeral Chapel, Silver Creek Friday, Oct. 24, 2014 from 8:00 to 9:30 a.m. There will be a prayer service at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Silver Creek. Interment will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
