Janet S. Peters, age 86, of Main Street, Perrysburg passed away early Friday morning October 24, 2014 at the Elderwood Healthcare Facility in Hamburg at Lakewood.
Janet born May 16, 1928 in Buffalo and was the daughter of Raymond J. and Ruth H. (Hooker) Sheehan.
Janet graduated from Buffalo General School of Nursing Class of '49 her nursing career spanned 40 years; she was the Gowanda High School Nurse for many years and also was a Public Health Nurse for Cattaraugus County before working at the JN Adam Developemental Hospital in Perrysburg as a Registered Nurse retiring in 1989. Janet was a member of St. Joseph's RC Church in Gowanda and was also a member of the church Altar and Rosary Society. Locally she was a 57 year member of the American Legion Ladies Auxillary in Gowanda, the DAR, a Life Member of the Slovenian Club and was a member of the Women of the Moose. She enjoyed Genealogy and enjoyed projects around the house. She was Aunt Jan to the Sheehan gang and more like a mother to all of them.
Survivors include her daughter, Susan L. Peters of Perrysburg, her nephews and niece, William ll (Marcy), Michael (Marcia) Patrick (JoAnne), Terrence (Janet) and Margaret "Peg" Sheehan. Jan is also survived by great nieces and nephews, Amanda Kanceler, Elizabeth Tinsley, Amanda Rivera, Meghan Sheehan, Laura Nemec, Moira Sheehan, Laura Roberts, Samuel, Kathleen, Connor, Kelton, Josiah, Casey and Kyle Sheehan. Great great nieces and nephews also survive.
Besides her parents Janet was preceded in death by her husband Walter C. Peters, whom she married October 25, 1952 at St. Paul of The Cross RC Church in Dayton, NY and who died October 21 1954. Her brothers and there wives, Raymond J. (Mary Lou) Sheehan Jr. and William H. (Mary Alice) Sheehan.
Friends may call at the Schindler Funeral Home, 44 Center St., Gowanda from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, October 29, 2014. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated Thursday, October 30, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the St. Joseph's RC Church, 71 East Main St., Gowanda (assemble at church). Fr. Joseph Porpiglia will be Celebrant. Interment in the Perrysburg Cemetery.
