Betty J. Lawrence, 83, of Dunkirk died Sunday evening (Oct. 26, 2014) at the Gowanda Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
She was born Jan. 10, 1931 in Dunkirk, the daughter of the late Howard and Rose (Rushbolt) Douglas.
A lifelong Dunkirk resident, Mrs. Lawrence had been employed as a registered nurse for many years at the Margaret Anthony Nursing Home in Dunkirk and Lake Shore Hospital in Irving.
Betty was very devoted to her family and loved animals, music and reading.
Survivors include four children, Andrew (Pamela Luczkowiak) Lawrence of Dunkirk, Howard (Kathy) Lawrence of Cragsmoor, Laura Miga of Dunkirk and Scott Lawrence of Michigan; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one sister, Doris Wilke.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew V. Lawrence Sr.; a son, Steven Lawrence; and a son-in-law, Michael A. Miga Jr.
Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 10 o'clock in the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home. The Rev. Dennis G. Riter will officiate. Calling hours will be held Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Entombment will be in the Resurrection Mausoleum of St. Mary's Cemetery. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Lakeshore Humane Society, 431 East Chestnut St., Dunkirk, NY 14048.
