Steven J. Geiger

Steven Joseph "Beach Bum" Geiger, 75, of Dunkirk, NY died Saturday night (Dec. 13, 2014) at the Chautauqua County Home in Dunkirk after a long battle with Leukemia.

He was born August 8, 1939 to the late Joseph and Theresa (Nezezon) Geiger in Port Colborne, Ontario, Canada.

After meeting his wife Evelyn (Radka), who preceded him in death, he moved to the United States to work and raise his family.

He was employed by Greif Brothers Corp., and served as a Secretary of the United Steel Worker's Union until his retirement in 1995.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

A superior athlete in his youth (two Basketball championships and scoring titles at Notre Dame High School, Inaugural Welland Tribune Basketball Tournament MVP-1958), Steven was recognized and honored by the Welland Tribune for his accomplishments in 2008.

A lifelong fan of the Cleveland Browns and Indians; adopter of the Buffalo Bills, Sabres, and Braves; and dedicated supporter of amateur athletics (especially those played by his children and grandchildren), he remained an avid sports enthusiast until the end.

He was a music lover as well, with Rock and Country being particular favorites.

He is survived by his son, Steven (Kristean) Geiger Jr. of Cheektowaga and his daughter, Donna (Jeff) Kubera of Dunkirk; grandchildren Kayla, Alex, and Peter Kubera, and namesake, Steven III; sisters Betty (the late Alan) Hoover and Margret (the late Peter) Pelino; brother Bob (Cathy) Geiger; and many nieces and nephews.

At the request of the deceased, no formal funeral or memorial services will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) www.lls.org/waystohelp.

Arrangements were by the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home.
