George D. Fehlman, 80, of St. John's Street, Gowanda passed away Sunday January 18, 2015 at his home. He was born March 26, 1934 in Erie, PA, the son of the late Leonard and Viola (Payne) Fehlman.
On July 10, 1954, he married the former Teresa M. Johnston, who predeceased him in 2006. Mr. Fehlman had worked at Moench Tanning Co. in Gowanda for 42 years and then at Flexfit in Angola until his retirement.
He was a member of the Gowanda Free Methodist Church where he was an usher for over 35 years. He also attended ECHO in Gowanda and was a past member of the Cattaraugus Rod and Gun Club and the Collins Conservation Club. He also was and outdoorsman and avid arrowhead hunter and collector.
He is survived by 3 daughters, Julie (David) Geisler of Perrysburg NY and Sheila Fehlman and Amy (Patrick) Kinsey, both of Gowanda, NY; four grandchildren Brad and Chad Giesler, Devin and Ian Kinsey; and two great grandchildren Kaylie Oldacre and Calvin Kinsey. Also surviving are three sisters, Genevieve Whitcher of Perrysburg, Betty Christy of Gerry, NY and Joan (Harry) Deeley of Perrysburg, NY; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his wife, he was predeceased by a son, Robert Fehlman; a brother, Leonard Fehlman; and a sister, Marjorie Swan.
Friends may call at the Mentley Funeral Home Inc., 105 East Main Street in Gowanda NY on Wednesday, January 21, 2015 from 4-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 22, 2015 at 11 a.m. from the Gowanda Free Methodist Church. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery in Gowanda, NY.
