Eleanor A. Rak

Eleanor A. Rak, 95, of Dunkirk, died Thursday January 22, 2015 at Brooks Memorial Hospital.

Born July 17, 1919 in Dunkirk, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Catherine (Setera) Lach.

Eleanor was a retired employee of the former Niagara Therapy in Brocton. She had co-owned and operated with her late husband the former Rak's Grocery Store, and at one time worked at the former Van Raalte Corporation.

Eleanor enjoyed crafting ceramics, crocheting, and repairing dolls. When she was younger, she built a cabin in Arkwright all by herself.

Surviving are a daughter, Jean Kulpa of Dunkirk; a son Joseph (Linda) Rak Jr. of Lyndonville, NY; sisters Mary Mosher of Cherry Creek, Florence Wilemski of Dunkirk and Agnes Seybold of Fredonia; grandchildren Colin Kulpa of Dunkirk, Christopher (Stacey) Kulpa of Arkwright, Joel (Dawn) Rak of Holland, NY, Seth (Alexandra) Rak of Maryland. Eight great-grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews, also survive.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Rak who died May 1989; grandson Michael Kulpa; sisters Josephine Frasher and Esther Lach; and brothers Anthony, Edmund Lach and John Stelmach.

Relatives and friends are welcome to call at the R. Mackowiak Funeral Home Inc., 56 East Doughty Street in Dunkirk, on Saturday, January 24 from 2-4 p.m., where a Christian Burial Service will be held at 4 p.m. with the Rev. Ray Donohue officiating.
