Josephine B. Lis, 90, of Dunkirk, passed away Sunday evening, February 22, 2015.
Born in Dunkirk, March 19, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Carol and Helen (Malkowski) Kucmierz.
A retired employee of Dunkirk Public Schools, Mrs. Lis was a former employee of the former Van Raalte Corporation in Dunkirk.
She was a parishioner of Blessed Mary Angela R. C. Parish, a Eucharist Minister at St. Hedwig Church, a former religious education teacher and a member of the parish Rosary Society, Sacred Heart Society and Choir. She also was a past member of the Kosciuszko Polish Home.
Surviving are her sons Gregory Lis of Fredonia and Richard (Jennifer) Lis of Orlando, FL; six grandchildren Michele, Christopher, Gregory Jr., Kaylee, Aricca and Matthew Lis; and sisters Wanda Graminski, Jane Steffan both of Dunkirk and Helen Jackson of Oswego, along with nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Florian Lis, who died April 21, 1980; brothers John, Thomas, Casimer, Aloysius Kucmierz; and sister Eleanor Krochmal.
Relatives and friends are welcome to call at the R. Mackowiak Funeral Home Inc., 56 East Doughty Street in Dunkirk on Friday, February 27 from 2:00-4:00 PM and 7:00-9:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, February 28 at 10:00 AM in Blessed Mary Angela R. C. Parish Church of St. Hedwig. Interment will be in St. Hedwig's Cemetery.
