Alexandra Barnes Norton

Alexandra Barnes Norton, of Cassadaga, N.Y. died Sunday, May 17, 2015 at home.

Alex was born in Framingham, Massachusetts. June 14, 1939 to the late Edward and Nadya Tschaikowsky Barnes.

She is survived by her husband, Frederic P. Norton; three children: Bryan A. Norton (Hideko) of Tokyo, Japan, Kezia E. Norton of Culver City, CA and Gregory P, (Jill) Norton of Buffalo; five grandchildren: Kiyana, Sierra, Ashley, Schyler, and Leah Norton. She is also survived by siblings: Peter A. (Martha) Barnes, Alfred (Susan) Barnes, Susan B. Kern and predeceased by her brother Timothy B. Barnes.

A graduate of High Mowing School in Wilton, NH, Alexandra taught Pre-K at The Park School of Buffalo, founder of the Tonawanda-Grand Island division of the Buffalo Philharmonic Women Committee, docent at the Buffalo Zoo, member and past President of the Twentieth Century Club of Buffalo, Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International Foundation. As wife of Frederic "Nick" Norton, Kenmore and Fredonia Rotarian, Alex hosted nine foreign Rotary International exchange students, and all three of her children were participants in the program.

As wife of a Rotary District Governor, she was very active in supporting the programs of Rotary District 7090 and its 75 constituent clubs. Alex was an extraordinary gardener and amateur ornithologist having fed the majority of the Northeast hummingbird population each summer. Alex was also a member of the town of Arkwright picnic committee.

Calls may be made Saturday, May 23 from 4-7 p.m., at the Larson-Timko Funeral Home, 20 Central Ave., Fredonia, N.Y. A Memorial Reception will held at the Twentieth Century Club of Buffalo, 595 Delaware Avenue, Buffalo, N.Y. on Thursday May 28 from 5-7 p.m. Funeral services will be private. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Buffalo, NY.
