John Fessenden, 87, of Cassadaga, NY, died peacefully at home in Naples, Florida on May 16, 2015.
He is survived by four daughters: Deborah Sowar (Timothy) of Franklin, WV, Barbara Benson of Carpentersville, IL, Kathleen Webster (Steven) of Naples, Lori Farrell (Daniel) of Kiantone, NY and 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Dolores (Waite) Fessenden, whom he married in 1951, parents Durward and Edith (Sharp) Fessenden and brother, Raymond Fessenden.
He graduated from Cassadaga Valley Central School in 1945 and served in the US Army during World War II and the Korean War. For 25 years, he was a member of Local Union IBEW 106 and served as recording secretary for much of that time. He also was an active member of the American Legion Post 1280 for over 60 years and will be fondly remembered marching in many Memorial Day parades.
In 1995, he retired to Naples, Florida and worked in the locker room at the Olde Florida Golf Cub for 19 years. During the summer months, he returned to his home in Cassadaga and in the past few years he enjoyed delivering meals for Sinclairville 76ers Meals on Wheels.
Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside military service at 12 noon on Sunday, July 19, 2015 at the Cassadaga Cemetery, followed by a luncheon at the Cassadaga Legion Post #1280. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make contributions to the Sinclairville 76ers Meals on Wheels, 30 Main Street, Sinclairville, NY 14782 in John's memory.
