Constance J. Salisbury, 81, of the Chautauqua Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Dunkirk died Thursday evening (July 23, 2015) at UPMC Hamot with family members present.
Connie was born in Dunkirk, NY on December 6, 1933 to Herbert and Eva (Berry) Salisbury. She graduated from Dunkirk High School in 1951 and received a BS and MS in education from SUNY Fredonia. She taught elementary grades for more than 30 years, primarily in the Westfield Public School system.
Connie was an active Unitarian Universalist having been treasurer and pianist for the local congregation. She also enjoyed doing needle work, traveling and playing the organ in several local churches. She spent many years delivering meals for Meals on Wheels and worked on their board of directors.
Besides her parents, Connie is preceded in death by her sister, Karen Tykesson.
Connie is survived by her brother, Paul (Santa) Salisbury of Dunkirk; two nephews, Paul (Marie) Salisbury and Kevin (Michelle) Salisbury; two great-nieces, Jenna and Claire Salisbury; and two great-nephews, Jacob and Calvin Salisbury.
Memorial services will be held Sunday, September 20 at 3:00 PM at the Fredonia Grange, 58 West Main Street, Fredonia. Burial will be in Willowbrook Park Cemetery. The family suggests memorial donations be made to a charity of one's choice.
