Stanley H. "Purdy" Pachol, 97, of Dunkirk died Sunday morning, August 23, 2015 at Brooks Memorial Hospital in Dunkirk. He was born May 7, 1918 in Dunkirk, son of the late Ignatius and Catherine (Dudek) Pachol.
A Veteran of WW II, having served with the US Army as 1st Sgt., and received the Meritorious Unit Award, American Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon w/2 Bronze Stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon w/1 Bronze Star.
Stanley retired from the city of Dunkirk as Chief Engineer at the Water Filtration Department. An avid golfer, he hit 3 holes in one at various golf courses, and also enjoyed to build and repair clocks.
His memberships include Blessed Mary Angela Parish Church of St. Hedwig, Kosciuszko Club and life member at the Moniuszko Club.
Surviving are several nieces and nephews, among them are Steve (Carol) Pachol of Columbia, SC, Janice (Ron) Budniewski, Ken (Nancy) Tarnowski and Gene (Jana) Tarnowski, all of Dunkirk. Preceded in death, in addition to his parents, are his wife Adell (Tarnowski) Pachol, who died July 8, 1981, and sisters Helen Meyers, Frances Wienckowski, Genevieve "Jean" Skoczylas, and brothers Henry, Allan, Thaddeus, Edmund, and Ralph Pachol.
Relatives and friends are welcome to call at the R. Mackowiak Funeral Home Inc., 56 East Doughty Street in Dunkirk on Thursday, August 27 from 2:00-4:00 PM and 7:00-9:00 PM. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday, August 28 at 10:00 AM in Blessed Mary Angela Parish Church of St. Hedwig. Interment will be in St. Hedwig's Cemetery.
