James R. "Bobber" Stark

James R. "Bobber" Stark, 87, of Dayton, NY passed away September 23, 2015 at the Gowanda Nursing Home. He was born February 14, 1928 in Collins Center, NY, the son of the late Cleon and Gertrude (Phillips) Stark.

On March 18, 1950, he married the former Theodora Palmberg, who predeceased him on February 22, 2003. Mr. Stark was a World War II Veteran, having served from 1946-1948 in the U.S. Navy and served on the USS Mississippi.

He had been employed at the Collins Producer's Milk Plant and he retired as a Senior Stationary Engineer at the Gowanda Psychiatric Center after 21 years. He was an avid poultry farmer and independently owned his poultry farm and once owned over 5,000 chickens. He also raised holstein and beef cattle for 15 years.

He was an animal and nature lover and was a 60-year member of the Perrysburg-Dayton United Methodist Church.

He is survived by two sons, Robert (Pennie) Stark and William (Darlene) Stark, both of Dayton, NY; two daughters, Kathleen Sechowski-Hurtgam of Medina, NY and Beverly (Doug) Deming-Dennison of Leicester, NY; 10 grandchildren, Melinda Sechowski, Mark Sechowski, Matthew Hurtgam, Ryan Stark, Russell Stark, Krissa Stark Bailey, Stephanie Stark, Robert A. Stark, Jeremy Deming and Alyssa Deming; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his wife, he was predeceased by an infant son, Phillip Stark; a grandson, Adam Stark; and a sister, Jeanne Vacinek.

Friends may call at the Mentley Funeral Home Inc., 105 E. Main St. in Gowanda, NY on Friday, September 25 from 4-7 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 26 at 10 a.m. from the Perrysburg-Dayton United Methodist Church. Burial with Military Honors ill be in Jolls Cemetery in Perrysburg, NY.

Memorials may be made to Buffalo City Mission, Perrysburg-Dayton United Methodist Church or the Dayton Volunteer Fire Department.
