Henry A. Szukala, 83, of Dunkirk died Tuesday morning, November 24, 2015 at the Chautauqua Nursing and Rehab. Born in Dunkirk on February 20, 1932, he was the son of the late Peter and Sophie (Szfranski) Szukala.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, Henry served during the Korean conflict. He was a retired employee of Al Tech Speciality Steel in Dunkirk, and also worked with his father and brothers in the family business, Peter Szukala and Sons Construction, and later with his brother Bob.
Henry enjoyed woodworking with his brother Bob and hanging out around "the yard."
Memberships included Blessed Mary Angela R.C. Parish and First Ward Falcons Club and at one time the WWII Vets.
Surviving is his wife of over 60 years, Geraldine (Wagner) Szukala, whom he married October 29, 1955; sons, Gregory (Pam) Szukala of Peoria, AZ, Steven (Cathy) Szukala of Dunkirk and Paul (Brenda) Szukala of Hilliard, OH; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Dolores (Raymond) Abramowicz of Dunkirk and Alice (Kurt) Daigel of Albany; along with many nieces, nephews and friends. Preceded in death, in addition to his parents, are his son, Mark Henry Szukala; sisters, Irene Krzyzanowicz, Esther Giermek and Shirley Skelly; and brothers, Peter and Robert Szukala.
Relatives and friends are welcome to call at the R. Mackowiak Funeral Home Inc., 56 East Doughty Street in Dunkirk on Friday, November 27 from 4:00-7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 28 at 10:00 AM in Blessed Mary Angela R.C. Parish Church of St. Hedwig. Interment will be in St. Hyacinth's Cemetery.
