Margaret M. "Peggy" Lilly, 94, of Fredonia died Tuesday evening, November 24, 2015 at the Chautauqua Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Dunkirk. She was born March 6, 1921 in Buffalo, the daughter of the late Carl W. and Elizabeth Andrews.
Peggy had been employed as a teacher's aide at the LoGuidice BOCES Center in Fredonia.
Peggy had a wonderful life; she loved her entire family more than anything and enjoyed every moment she spent with them.
She was an accomplished musician, especially the violin and the piano. She was a former member of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. Peggy also loved oil painting and many homes in the area are graced with her works. Her passion for her horses is well known. She was among the first female harness racing licensed drivers in New York State. Peggy also trained her thoroughbreds along with harness racing them throughout New York.
An area resident for most of her life, she was a member of St. Joseph Church and its Rosary Society, Fredonia Grange No. 1, and the Laona Home Bureau, among many other memberships.
Survivors include one son, Steven (Sue) Lilly of Fredonia; two daughters, Dianna White-Corter of Fredonia and Donna Schweickert of Arizona; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Lilly; one brother, Robert Andrews; grandson, Richard Purdy; and three sons-in-law, David White and David Corter, and Henry Schweickert.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass, which will be celebrated Tuesday, December 1 at 10:00 AM in St. Joseph Church (please use side entrance). In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lakeshore Humane Society or the Alzheimer's Association.
