Virginia VanPoortvliet

Virginia Mae Hilton VanPoortvliet of Cassadaga passed away Saturday, February 6, 2016 at Brooks Memorial Hospital surrounded by her family. Three days prior, she celebrated her 93rd birthday at Webb's Captains Table.

Born February 3, 1923 in the Town of Charlotte, daughter of the late Fred and Mary Lutgen Hilton. She attended Cassadaga Schools and was excited to attend the 75th Cassadaga Valley Central School anniversary as one of the oldest alumni. Virginia was employed at the Holiday Inn, Ehler's, Caprino's, West Sheridan Furniture and the Victorian House of Gifts. Virginia cherished her family and friends. She enjoyed feeding the birds, watching her daughter's farm, going to her cow and horse shows and was very proud of her accomplishments. She enjoyed attending sporting events for many generations of athletes in the family and saving newspaper articles of family accolades. This was part of how she was able to keep involved with her friends and family along with special gatherings and outings with them, including regular lunch dates. She enjoyed farm fresh milk and eggs, working in the yard, shopping, decorating, crossword puzzles, and an occasional manhattan.
