Anna Schlichter, 92, of Dunkirk died Monday evening, Feburary 8, 2016 at the Chautauqua Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Dunkirk following a brief illness. She was born November 11, 1923 in Westfield, the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Ferro) Cogliano.
A lifelong area resident, Anna married her husband, William B. Schlichter on April 26, 1947 and took an active role in operating the family business, Schlichter's Bicycles in Dunkirk for many years.
She was a active member of Holy Trinity Church and its Women's Guild. She also belonged to the American Legion Post No. 62.
Survivors include two daughters, Diana Schlichter of Amherst and Sandra Schlichter of Fort Worth, TX; one sister, Irene Gittler of Sterling Heights, MI; two grandchildren, Reagan (Ryan) Gabner and Heather Stevens; six great-grandchildren, Chloe Cornett, David Smith, Myka Smith, Scott Gabner, Shelby Gabner, and Savannah Gabner; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William B. Schlichter, who died September 2, 2003; her granddaughter, Jennie Lynn Lascola; seven brothers, Carl Cogliano, Frank Cogliano, Anthony Cogliano, Sam Cogliano, Joseph Cogliano, Richard Cogliano, and infant brother Joe; and two sisters, Rose Ardillo and Carmella South.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated Friday, February 12 at 12:00 PM in Holy Trinity Church. Calling hours will be held Thursday, February 11 from 2:00-4:00 PM and 7:00-9:00 PM at the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home. Burial will be in Willowbrook Park Cemetery.
