Randy Burgess, 58 years old, of Portland, NY passed away on Saturday, June 25, 2016 in the afternoon at Westfield Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Randy was born in Westfield, NY on April 20, 1958 and was the son of Ronald and the late Shirley Harriman Burgess.
He has resided in this area most of his life and had, at one time, lived in Fulton, NY.
Randy graduated from Brocton Central School and had served his country in the United States Army from 1974-1976. He had been employed earlier in his life as a truck driver for Hills Trucking Co., and more recently at Frost Trucking Co. of Fredonia, NY. He was a former member of The American Legion John W. Dill Post 434 of Brocton, NY and former member of ABATE. Randy was also a member of The Friendship Church in Brocton. Randy loved motorcycles, hunting, bowling and crosscountry skiing.
Randy is survived by his father, Ronald Burgess of Portland, NY; one son, Christopher Burgess of Florida; three brothers, Scott Burgess of Rock Hill, SC, Duane Burgess of Brocton and Darren Burgess of Brocton; his sister-in-law, Sue Burgess of Westfield; and several nieces and nephews and several great-nieces and great-nephews. Besides his mother, who passed away in 2004, he was predeceased by one brother, Steven, who passed away in 2013.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 29 from the Morse Funeral Home in Brocton. The Rev. Sandi Ball will officiate. Friends are invited to call at the Morse Funeral Home, 51 Highland Ave., Brocton on Tuesday, June 28 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Interment will follow at the Portland Evergreen Cemetery, where Randy will receive full Military honors that will be provided by The American Legion John W. Dill Post 434 of Brocton.
