Robert H. Altwies, 83, was reunited with the love of his life, Lorraine Kaus, on her birthday, Satuday, July 16, 2016. He went peacefully at home, surrounded by his family. Born July 29, 1932 in Buffalo, NY to Genevieve Schmitz Altwies and Henry Peter Altwies.
Robert and Lorraine moved to Florida in 2000 to be closer to their children.
He was a 1950 graduate of St. Mary's Academy and a 1958 graduate of Tri-State University. A veteran of the Korean Conflict (USS Tutulia), Robert served in the Navy from 1951-1958. He served on numerous boards and associations in New York, Florida, and South Carolina.
Predeceased by his parents as well as his stepmother, Rosemary Cosgrove Altwies; and wife, Lorraine, 69, who passed away on October 21, 2003. They married at St. Mary's Church in Dunkirk on August 25, 1956. Surviving children are Michael (Cindy) Altwies, Mark (Genny) Altwies, Michelle (Mike) Adams, Meldan (Jodi) Altwies, Maureen (Christopher) Spring, and Mary (Matthew) Stokes. 12 grandchildren also survive; as well as brother-in-law, Norbert (Jean) Kaus; sister-in-law, Geraldine (Robert) Rushboldt; stepsister, Jacqueline "Jackie" (Sheldon) Grant; and several nieces and nephews.
Burial will be in a shared columbarium with his wife, Lorraine at the national cemetery in Bushnell, FL.
Robert requested a Memorial Mass to be held in July 2017 in Dunkirk.
