Richard B. Jensen of Route 62 in Collins passed away Friday morning, October 21, 2016 at the TLC Healthcare Center Lakeshore Campus in the Town of Hanover. Richard was 83 yeas old. Born in Collins, NY on December 28, 1932, the son of Bert and Edna (Bastedo) Jensen.
Dick married the former Jean M. Spengler at the former St. Mary's RC Church in New Oregon on August 4, 1956. Jean survives.
Richard worked for the Erie County Highway Dept. He retired in 1995 after nearly 38 years of state employment, raised on a dairy farm, Jensen Acres Dairy Farm in Collins. The farm was sold nearly 10 years ago. He was active with the farm up until it sold.
Dick enjoyed hunting and playing euchre. He was an exempt member of the Collins Center Fire Department and was a life member of the Slovenian Club in Gowanda. He also enjoyed playing horseshoes and worked in the Ag building during the Erie County Fair for years.
Surviving, besides his wife Jean of 60 years, are three sons, Dennis M. (wife Karen) Jensen and Kevin B. Jensen, both of Collins and Dwayne P. (wife Angelia) Jensen of Great Valley; grandchildren, Thomas Prince, Brett Jensen, Lindsey (husband Michael) Kiener, Tristan, Trinity and Landon Jensen, along with Dalton and Oakley Bradley. Richard is also survived by a great-granddaughter, Kamryn Kiener; along with three brothers, Douglas (wife Susan) Jensen, James (late wife Sally) Jensen, Walter (Judith) Jensen, James (late wife Sally) Jensen and Douglas (wife Susan) Jensen, all of Collins; two sisters, Shirley Dash of Collins and Margaret (late husband Norm) Spengler, both of Collins; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Richard was preceded in death by a grandson, Skylar Jensen; and two sisters, Betty (late husband Leon) Reding and Eleanor (late husband Kurt) Arendt.
A time of remembrance will take place Sunday, November 6 at 1 p.m. at the Collins Center Volunteer Fire Department, 3514 Main Street (Route 39), Collins Center, NY (716) 532-3300.
