David L. Peterson

David L. Peterson, 84, of Sinclairville passed away Friday, October 21, 2016, at WCA Hospital. Born October 11, 1932 in Jamestown, a son of the late Jerome E. and Frances M. Hall Peterson.

David was a resident of Chautauqua County most of his life and graduated from Cassadaga Valley High School in 1949. He attended Alfred University before enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1951. As a veteran during the Korean conflict, David served aboard the USS Howard W. Gilmore (submarine tender), rising to a machinist mate second class. Upon his discharge, David completed his degree in 1956 from the Embry-Riddle School of Aviation.

David was hired by United Airlines in 1956 as an aviation maintenance technician and retired on January 1, 1992. During a short layoff from United Airlines (1969-72), he acted as the vice president and director of maintenance for Hasco Aviation. He was a member of the Thule Lodge and the David Vern Luce American Legion Post. David also actively served many years with the Chautauqua County Meals on Wheels Program and served on the board of the Sinclairville Cemetery. David enjoyed flying throughout his life and was a licensed commercial pilot.

David was the husband of Janice M. Pickard Peterson, married on July 26, 1952, until her passing on February 17, 2014. He was the father of three sons, Philip David (Patricia) of Greenville, SC, Stephen Jerome (Nicolette) of Aurora, IL and Dale Edward (Joanie) of Denver, NC. He was the grandfather of ten; great-grandfather of six; and the brother of Richard Peterson (Gail) of Chili, NY. David married Bette Drokoski in April 2015.

A graveside service for family and friends is being planned for November 11 or 12 or 13 at the Sinclairville Cemetery. Specific information will be made available by the Jordan Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Chautauqua County.
